pril 17 will be our last official meeting and guest artist.  However, MAA activities continue all year!  Let me say, as I conclude my time as your president . . . .it’s been a very exciting period of time.  I have enjoyed the experience, and in case you didn’t know, have had the opportunity and privilege of meeting and working with a bunch of wonderful people.  That’s you!  Naomi Zima and Willa Nolan are the nominating committee for a new slate of officers.  Please speak to them or me or Pat White, our present VP, if you would like to serve on the Board.  We meet once a month, the week before the MAA meeting.

M

anchester schools have contacted us once again to demonstrate an art or craft to students.  Those of you who did it last year and said you would repeat will be contacted again.  Anyone wanting to demonstrate painting or drawing in the high school, please let me know.  (P.S.  The kids are wonderful!)

M

ay 22 is the date of a meeting with the Arts Commission and the Arts Council concerning the school budget cuts that eliminate the arts from the elementary schools.  We all need to get involved by sending a short handwritten note to the Board of Education members, Board of Directors and/or state legislators.

KEEP PAINTING

v    We have the Clothesline Show on Heritage Day at Cheney Hall, June 8.  Art should be wrapped with plastic and priced.  We do hang it on a clothesline outdoors.  Artists should be present to receive money from the sale.  Rain cancels.

v    Don’t forget the snow fence exhibit at the Show in the Park on Sunday, June 2.  Barbara Lappen sent out applications.

v    Another outdoor opportunity is at Yankee Candle Show and Sale, June 22nd and 23rd.  See Jessie Michalek or call her at 646-9724.

v    Would someone like to paint a picture of the Cheney Homestead on Heritage Day?  They would like a few artists to be out on the lawn painting.  And if anyone has a painting of the Homestead, speak up.

v    We will put up a new exhibit of artwork at Penney’s Transitional Hall on May 17.  All members and their guests are welcome to see the exhibit, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Members’ names are on file with Penney management.
