Some familiarity with the watercolor medium is recommended. 

 

We’ll start off reviewing some general ideas about composition, value, and perspective, and then outline a city street scene based on these concepts. The scene will include some structures, perhaps a vehicle or two, and people milling about in the rain. A full size sample photo and/or value sketch will be provided as a guide. Then we will work together, step by step, on the painting using various watercolor techniques. Our goal will be to finish with correct shapes, a nice range of tones, and a realistic (but slightly impressionistic) style painting, with appropriate shadows and reflections.

Artist Bio:

 

After Joe retired from an engineering career in 2009, he began to study art. He always liked to draw and so it seemed like a natural thing to do. He began with drawing classes, and spent considerable time with the colored pencil medium, but eventually moved to his favorite medium, watercolor.

 

Joe learned through adult education classes and then through private lessons and workshops. He has won numerous awards in local exhibits and is an active member of several art organizations. He has conducted workshops on understanding perspective, reflections, shadows, and the like, to help other artists on the road to better paintings. 

 

Joe especially likes the challenge of commissioned work. He has taught watercolor for Arts Center East, in person and on Zoom, and is currently an instructor at the Windsor Locks Senior Center.
