MAA awards over $2000 in scholarships yearly. This is supported through our fundraising activities. 

High School Scholarship 
Every year, MAA awards a scholarship of $2,000 to a graduating high school student. The scholarship committee chooses the winning applicant. The scholarship is intended to help a student further his/her education in the visual arts, including but not limited to, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, art education, set design or film making.

Eligibility    

The graduating high school senior must be a resident of Connecticut, be a graduating senior and attend school in Manchester, South Windsor, East Hartford, Vernon/Rockville, Glastonbury, 

Bolton, Coventry, Tolland or Hebron.  The student must be accepted at a 4 year accredited college for the fall.

Application  

Applications for the 2023-2024 school year have ended.

Deadline    
Completed applications were to be post marked no later than April 15, 2023. 

Decision letters were mailed by May 6, 2023.

The 2023 MAA High School Scholarship Winners

MAA awarded scholarships to Jordan Trares, Tyrique Martin and Sofia Brummitt.  

Jordan Trares is the winner of the 2023 Manchester Art Associations $2,000 Scholarship. Jordan is graduating from Manchester High School. She has always had an interested in art. Once she tried oil painting and learned techniques that increased her skills she discovered painting was her passion. She says, “I love to paint and love the feeling of a paintbrush in my hand.” Three artists that influenced her were: Salvador Dali showed her not every piece has to make sense to the viewer.  Frida Kahlo showed her it is ok to show pain, passion and emotions in my art. And Van Gogh showed her you don’t have to stick to one thing. She will be going to the University of Hartford  pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts.  

A $1,000 Scholarship was awarded to Tyrique Martin. Tyrique is a student at South Windsor High School and the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. His favorite medium is pencil, because he can control it the best. His designs are unique and full of meaning to him. His favorite artist is Nigel Chia. He hopes to be a fashion designer. He will be attending Lasell University in Newton, Mass

 

A $1,000 Scholarship was awarded to Sofia Brummitt. Sofia is graduating from Glastonbury High School. She is an accomplished dancer, performer and has already been working as a Graphics and Marketing Intern for a ballet theatre company. She enjoys combining technology and art. Sofia will be attending School of Visual Arts in New York City, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
